Consignment store opens up on Main Street in Nashua

By Staff | Jun 29, 2015

NASHUA – Having her own store has long been a dream for Ontaya Glenn, co-owner of Dress 2 Impress, which opened on Main Street on Saturday, but some hard-nosed business sense went into the decision, as well.

Other store owners on the block, she said, “told me that there were no children’s clothing store anymore, and people were looking for them. And there are no consignment stores here,” said Glenn, 29, a 2004 graduate of Merrimack High School.

Glenn and her boyfriend, Rolaundo Wright, have opened the store in the roughly 900-square-foot retail space formerly occupied by Ikebana Flowers at 175 Main St. They sell brand-name and high-end consignment clothing, shoes and handbags for children and adults.

Glenn, a Nashua resident who is also a hair stylist at Perfect Solutions in the city, said she had been thinking for years about opening a consignment clothing store. “I always thought it would be a little surreal to have a place downtown,” she said.

Glenn has retail experience from working for other merchants, but this is her first time as business owner and boss. She admits, “When I first got the space, I had a mini-heart attack.”

On Friday, aside from
being badgered by a reporter, signs of preparation were still all around, ranging from a power drill on the floor to bags of unsorted clothing in the back, as the new owners scrambled to get ready.

She and Wright will run Dress 2 Impress with help from a cousin and perhaps other family members. That includes her 7-year-old daughter Lillian, who charmed more than a few people handing out store flyers during the recent Taste of Nashua downtown event.

Like many entrepreneurs, Glenn said naming the new business was hard: The final name came from Lillian, she said.

Glenn said financing is entirely from savings, with no debt taken on. “Instead of trying to buy a house, I thought, ‘Why not do this?’?” she said.
