Brush fire closes DW Highway in northern Merrimack
MERRIMACK – Winds have fanned a grass fire into a spreading brush fire in the Reed’s Ferry section of Merrimack, forcing police to shut down the Daniel Webster Highway between Bedford Road and the Bedford town line.
The blaze was first reported around 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Merrimack fire has sent several trucks, and Bedford is enroute for assistance.
The fire began in the area of the WFEA radio tower, which is off DW Highway near the Bedford line. At last report, the wind was blowing the fire toward the DW Highway, necessitating its closure.
As of 3:15 p.m. it didn’t appear the fire was threatening any homes or other buildings in the area.
