Man charged after newspapers reported stolen from Hudson driveway

HUDSON – Theodore Banks isn’t spending the weekend in jail because of his arrest Thursday for shoplifting.

It’s because of an incident that took place after he left the Hudson police station.

Banks, 69, of Manchester, was charged with shoplifting at Walmart, police said. He left the police station Friday morning, intending to walk to Nashua, police said.

As Banks walked down Clement Road, two newspapers – The Telegraph and USA Today – were stolen from a driveway, police said. The homeowner called police to report the theft. When officers caught up with Banks, he was reading a newspaper, police said.

Banks was arrested again on a theft charge and transported to Valley Street jail in Manchester in lieu of $2,500 bail.

Banks is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Nashua district court, police said.
