Gravel pit, roof repairs among articles in Lyndeborough
LYNDEBOROUGH – Voters will consider whether to buy a small gravel pit and reinforce the roof of Town Hall, harmed by work done in the 1880s, as part of Town Meeting on Saturday.
It will also discuss a proposed operating budget of $1,565,507, plus a variety of special articles totalling $248,730.
Town Meeting begins at 10 a.m. at Citizens’ Hall. Ballot voting takes place 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday at Town Hall in Lyndeborough Center.
The 20 articles on the warrant include the purchase of a small gravel pit in North Lyndeborough for $5,000 from the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests. It is estimated that the area contains about $60,000 worth of gravel, enough for the town to use for next three years.
One article would spend about $10,000 to strengthen roof supports of old Town Hall with a system of steel rods, to deal with stress caused by changes made to the roof line in the 1880s.
Another article involves a five-year lease agreement to purchase 14 air packs for the Fire Department. The department staff members said their air packs – the breathing equipment used to enter burning buildings – are wearing out.
