Motorcyclist killed after crashing with deer
MERRIMACK – A 20-year-old Merrimack man died Friday at Massachusetts General Hospital following a motorcycle crash on the F.E. Everett Turnpike on Tuesday.
Police said Jonathan Simeone died as a result of “very serious injuries” sustained in the early-morning crash.
State Police from Troop B in Bedford responded to the accident north of Exit 12 in Merrimack at approximately 4:30 a.m. May 25. Police said when they arrived on the scene they found that motorcycle had struck a deer and the rider, Simeone, was laying unconscious in the median. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, police said.
He was treated at the scene by firefighters from Merrimack and Bedford fire departments and flown by a DHART helicopter to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Merrimack police also assisted at the accident.
“Preliminary investigation indicates the motorcycle was travelling northbound when it struck the deer and crashed,” police said in a press release issued Saturday. “The operator suffered major trauma when he was separated from the motorcycle after the impact.”
The accident is under investigation by Trooper Brian Parker with Troop B. Anyone with any information about the accident should call Parker at 666-3333.
