Stanleys don’t always go by family name

Not all Stanley pavers use the family name. Take Gerald S. Gill Jr. and Sr.

The “S” is for Stanley, and the Gills are related to both the Stanleys of southern New Hampshire and George J. Stanley of Moosup, Conn., one of California’s most notorious paving scammers.

The Gills hail from southern New Hampshire, though Junior lived more recently in Leominster, Mass., with a paving family named Miller, public records show.

He registered the name Circle K Paving, at 7 Gosselin Road, Manchester, in April 2009 in New Hampshire, public records show.

This winter, according to police and news reports, Gerald S. Gill Sr., 54, and Jr., 28, have been working in the Naples, Fla., area, where local television news has reported they are suspected of scamming the Calypso Car Wash owner, paving his parking lot and demanding $9,000 after saying they would patch potholes for $1,500, WVZN television news reported.

Naples police issued a scam warning on the pair on the home page of their Web site, which was picked up by local news. Police aren’t investigating further, because no one had paid any money to the pavers, an officer there said Monday, Feb. 15.

In both cases, the pavers were soliciting jobs door to door and tried to collect sums far higher than they’d quoted, police said.

“In both cases, an unknown white male approached a property owner and offered to perform driveway/parking lot repairs. The male claimed he was finishing another job ‘in the area’ and had extra asphalt, which he wanted to get rid of,” police reported. “The man is said to have indentified himself as Gerald Gill and represented his company as Circle-K Paving.”

According to Palm Beach (Fla.) police, Gill Sr. has prior arrests in Florida, Oregon, North Carolina, Virginia and Massachusetts, and though based in New Hampshire, he has been linked to paving complaints in California, Minnesota and Utah.

Gerald Gill Jr. and Sr. have previously lived in Amherst, Derry, Manchester and Milford, public records show.

In December 2007, Gerald Gill Sr. was stopped for driving a Chevrolet Silverado with no plates in Palm Beach, police said. His son was with him and took possession of his belongings as Gill Sr. was arrested on a grand theft warrant, police said.
