Sign of The Times? Paving firm gets ‘F’

Brothers David and Dennis Stanley run a curious combination. The headquarters of their paving business, Driveways Corp., 19 Industrial Road, Uxbridge, Mass., is also home to The Church of The End Times.

According to a resident of the area, Driveways Corp. trucks bear the slogan, “Paving the Way for Jesus.” Information on the church can be found on its Web site, www.thechurch oftheendtimes.com. The denomination is unclear.

The reputation of Driveways Corp. is clearly less than devout, however. The Better Business Bureau gives it an “F” rating, reporting 26 complaints against the company in the past three years. The complaints included breach of contract, failure to honor warranties, defective product and failure to honor promises of refunds or repairs.

“This company has a pattern of complaint,” the Better Business Bureau reports. “Specifically, complaints allege poor workmanship indicating there are large cracks and imperfections on driveways. Other complaints allege consumers paid cash up front for work to begin; however, the company failed to complete the job and has not refunded monies paid.”

In August 2009, MetroWest Daily News reported that Driveways Corp. had run afoul of local signage and permitting ordinances in Marlborough, Mass., as well, but the Stanley brothers asserted they were correcting the violations, after having been cited and fined $700.
