City officer hospitalized after chase
NASHUA – A Nashua police officer is in a Boston hospital after being injured following a motor vehicle stop and foot pursuit Tuesday afternoon.
The officer stopped a vehicle on Pine Street around 4 p.m., when the felon driver tried to flee, police said.
After a foot pursuit, the officer and suspect got into an “altercation.” When it was over, the suspect continued to flee leaving behind the injured officer, police said.
The suspect was captured minutes later and Nashua police detectives are investigating the incident, police said.
The officer, whose name police did not immediately release, was brought to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center and later to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston when he had complications, police said.
Nashua police Lt. Raymond McDannell said the suspect, whose name is not yet being released, has been charged with resisting arrest, disobeying a police officer and being a habitual offender.
McDannell declined to give any other information on the incident including what type of altercation the pair was involved in, whether a male or female officer was involved. It was also unknown why the motor vehicle stop was initiated.
Police did not have any information on the officer’s condition.
McDannell said more information may be released.
