Local to plead in theft of $4,000 of leggings

By Dean Shalhoup - Senior Staff Writer | Feb 28, 2019

NASHUA The Lawrence, Massachusetts woman charged in 2017 with the theft of thousands of dollars worth of women’s leggings from a Victoria’s Secret store in Nashua has agreed to plead guilty to one felony offense in exchange for a suspended prison sentence.

Yesenia Torres, 44, entered a guilty plea to the charge of theft by unauthorized taking, a felony that accused her of collecting women’s clothing, specifically leggings, and “exiting the store without paying for them,” according to police reports.

The items, valued at roughly $4,000, were taken from Victoria’s Secret’s Pheasant Lane Mall store in October 2017.

Prosecutors, as part of the plea deal, agreed to drop two additional charges of theft by unauthorized taking, both of which were felonies.

Torres was sentenced to three and a half to seven years in State Prison, all suspended for three years, on the condition she pay $3,950 in restitution to Victoria’s Secret.

She must also remain on good behavior, and have no contact with any Victoria’s Secret store, according to the agreement.

A notation in Torres’ case file states prosecutors will not seek to impose a suspended sentence Torres received in another theft case from 2012, which involved similar allegations at a store at the Merrimack Premium Outlets Mall.
