FBI Investigating Extortion Case Involving Hollis Family
HOLLIS – The Federal Bureau of Investigation is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to the arrest of the suspect or suspects behind a spate of “multiple extortion attempts, harassment and animal cruelty” against a Hollis family and their farm, Rickety Ranch, an FBI spokeswoman said Tuesday.
Representatives of the FBI’s Boston field office have been investigating the series of incidents for more than a year, and are now offering the reward in hopes it prompts a person or people with knowledge of the suspects to come forward.
The FBI said Tuesday that the family has received “multiple extortion letters” in which the sender “attempted to collect $250,000” from them. In return, according to the FBI, the sender “offered to spare the family from harm.” The sender also claimed “to be capable of settling” the family’s “ongoing disputes with the Town of Hollis.”
The FBI asks that anyone with any information regarding the incidents or suspect or suspects to call the FBI Boston Division at 857-386-2000. Tips can also be submitted at tips.fbi.gov.
