Snowfall set for today into Sunday

By Adam Urquhart - Staff Writer | Dec 9, 2017

NASHUA – The first measurable snowfall of the winter season is set to hit the Nashua area somewhere between 10 a.m. and noon today.

Some flurries were seen across the state last month. Meteorologists though, are predicting 4 to 5 inches of snow in Greater Nashua from this storm system.

Doug Webster, senior meteorologist at Hometown Forecast Services in Nashua said, “There’s three or four models we look at, and they’re all consistent with 4 to 5 inches.”

He said there may be a little more snow toward the seacoast, but only by an inch or so.

Northern New Hampshire and far west areas of the state can expect less snowfall. Webster said the north country and the Keene area may receive somewhere around 1 to 3 inches.

“It’s moving far enough offshore that they’re going to miss the heavier part of the moisture shield,” Webster said.

The snow is expected to wrap up by daybreak Sunday, somewhere around 4 a.m. However, some snow flurries may linger Sunday morning, but most likely won’t add to the accumulate.

“I don’t think it will be wet and heavy, but I don’t think it will be dry and powdery either. The temperature will be about 30 or 29 degrees for most of it,” Webster said, adding that, “It’ll be somewhere in the middle.”

He said Saturday night may tend to be drier snow, with the possibility of temperatures dropping overnight causing the snow to dry out a bit.

“As far as a threat to bringing down trees or power lines, I don’t see it being a threat. There’s not much wind to speak of either,” Webster said.

So, as snow sticks to the surface of the ground for the first time this season Webster jokingly said

it’s when everyone kind of relearns to drive.
