Early morning accident in Hudson results in DWI arrest

By Adam Urquhart - Staff Writer | Nov 19, 2017

HUDSON – After taking out a utility pole early Friday morning, a Windham man was arrested for DWI. Hudson Police responded to a report of a single vehicle collision into a utility pole in the area of Ferry Street by Campbell Avenue at around 12:57 a.m.

Officers were on scene to investigate the crash and determined a 2016 Dodge Ram Pickup was traveling east over the Taylor Falls Bridge into Hudson. The pickup went off the road striking a median, a light pole, traffic signs and a utility pole. The light pole and traffic signs were knocked down as a result of the collision.

The driver, Derek Tomes, 28 of Windham, was the only occupant in the vehicle and was treated at the scene by members of the Hudson Fire Department before being transported to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center for further evaluation on non-life threatening injuries.

With airbag deployment and heavy damage to the vehicle, the pickup truck was towed from the scene. Eversource was called out to assess the utility pole and Hudson Department of Public Works was called to remove a large amount of debris in the road. During cleanup, traffic was detoured for more than an hour until the road was cleared at about 2:30 a.m.

Tomes is scheduled to appear for arraignment at the 9th Circuit Court, Nashua District Division on Nov. 30.
