Florida man knocks out utility pole in Hudson

HUDSON – An elderly Florida man struck a utility pole on on Kimball Hill Road on Thursday afternoon, knocking out power to the area, Hudson police said.

Charles Grossman, 73, of Miramar Beach, Fla., reportedly lost control of his 2008 Kia as he was driving east on Kimball Hill Road around 3 p.m., and his vehicle went off the road to the right, hitting the utility pole and breaking it at the base. Grossman’s car kept going before coming to a stop at Clement Road, police said.

Members of the Hudson Fire Department attended to Grossman on the scene. He appeared to be uninjured and refused any further medical treatment, police said.

The Kia had to be towed from the scene, and Eversource responded to assess the damage to the pole. The road remained closed Thursday from Speare Road to Clement Road as utility crews worked to restore power and repair the damaged pole.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
