HOLLIS – Monument Square will be transformed into a winter wonderland Saturday, Dec. 10, for the Hollis Holiday Luminary Stroll and Winter Holiday Concert.

Starting at 1 p.m., members of several town organizations, including the Hollis Brookline Middle School Interact Club, the Hollis Woman’s Club, the Girl Scouts and the Hollis Agricultural Committee, will arrange thousands of white luminary bags around the square. At 4 p.m., candles inside the bags will be lit.

After the bags are lit, Santa will travel through the center of town in style during a tractor parade. When the parade ends at the Lawrence Barn on Depot Road, Santa will stick around to meet children and hear their Christmas wishes.

Parents will be able to take pictures of the children sitting on Santa’s lap for a small donation. Hot cocoa and refreshments will be available to purchase.

Additionally, a miniature Victorian village will be on display at the Hollis Historical Society, and the Hollis Social Library will host children’s activities.

The festivities will culminate at 7 p.m. with the Hollis Town Band’s performance of its annual Winter Holiday Concert at the Hollis Brookline High School auditorium.

The cost of admission is a donation of canned goods.

Kimber Harmon, chairwoman of the Holiday Luminary Stroll, said the events capture the essence of Hollis.

“I think our little village is picture perfect and the event is so quintessentially New England,” she said. “It just makes everybody happy.”

Harmon said that there is still a need for volunteers to create and light the bags at 1 p.m. Event coordinators are encouraging homeowners around the square to participate, as well.

The event is sponsored by the Hollis Woman's Club, Hollis Brookline Rotary, NorEaster Snowmobile Club, Hollis Agricultural Committee, Hollis Historical Society, Friends of the Hollis Social Library, Congregational Church of Hollis and the Girl Scouts.
