Two brothers from Manchester were arrested by Nashua police early Wednesday morning in connection with a drive-by shooting downtown.

Nashua officer Don Weise was patrolling Main Street around 2:45 a.m. Wednesday when he heard what he thought were three gunshots. Seconds later he saw a white Dodge Avenger speed onto Main Street from Pratt Street, between Lincoln and Russell avenues, police said.

Weise was able to stop the car with the help of other patrolmen. Three residents approached and said someone in the car had just fired a weapon at them while they were standing in the area of 10-12 Pratt St., police said.

Police arrested Darrius Weekly, 20, of 38 Orange St., Apt. 1, Manchester, and his brother, Darrion Weekly, 19, of 219 Notre Dame Ave., Apt. 3N, Manchester. Both are facing a number of felony charges, police said.

Detectives investigated the incident and said it began when one car, with four people inside, was parked outside 10-12 Pratt St. and a second car, with the Weeklys and two other people, drove past. Police said shots were fired from the car that the Weeklys were in when two of the people in the parked car got out and were standing on the sidewalk.

One bullet went through the window of 12 Pratt St., but no one was struck, either inside or outside the house, police said.

One of the people who had left the parked car suffered a broken arm when he dove to the ground and was run over when the driver of the parked car tried to flee, police said.

The relationship between the Weeklys and the intended victims is unknown but detectives are investigating, police said.

Nashua police Lt. Denis Linehan credited Weise’s quick action pulling over the suspect’s vehicle for the arrests.

“He did an unbelievable job,” Linehan said.

Darrion Weekly is charged with attempted first-degree assault, a Class A felony, and reckless conduct, a Class B felony. Darrius Weekly is charged with two counts of criminal liability to each of those charges, police said.

Both Weeklys will be arraigned at Nashua district court on Thursday, police said.
