The Riverwalk Cafe in Nashua is set to debut its new addition Wednesday, but the formal grand opening event for the Riverwalk Cafe and Music Bar will take place the following Thursday.

“Wednesday will be business as usual,” said co-owner Jane Ruddock. “All of our customers will come in the same entrance, but we’ll be renovating the existing cafe. People will sit in the new area. On the 21st, a Thursday, we’ll be doing the grand opening,”

The renovations on the cafe side are expected to last a couple of weeks.

Ruddock owns the cafe at 35 Railroad Square along with her husband, Steve. They purchased the space in 2010, and have established a popular coffee roastery and cafe that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as a beer and wine bar.

The cafe already hosts open mic nights, music, performances and local artwork. But for the new space, the couple have a larger music venue, full-service bar and more comprehensive menu planned. Joe Cunningham and Friends will kick off the grand opening on the 21st playing jazz with some funk elements, according to Steve Ruddock. The event begins at 8 p.m. and has a $10 cover.

Earlier this year, Riverwalk’s plaza neighbor, Olga’s Bridal & Alterations of Nashua, moved to Amherst Street and the Ruddocks took over the lease in the spring and began renovating the approximately 1,100-square-foot space. The addition will about triple Riverwalk’s seating area.

“The existing bar where people order now will be moved to the new space. There will be tables going almost to the wall where the bar is now. In the same area … by the wall where you stand when you order, we’ll display local community art work. We’ll work with artists, find appropriate pictures and have a rotating display,” Jane Ruddock said.

Riverwalk will debut its new menu for the grand opening as well. “The old cafe menu will be available until 5 at night, then we switch to servers and the nighttime menu. We’ll still be serving our coffee at night, and we’ll be adding new desserts,” Steve Ruddock said.

The hours will change following the grand opening as well, he said. “We’ll be open earlier and closing later – 6 a.m. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. We’ll close at 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday – the nights when there’s no music, and we’ll be closing at 11 the other nights,” he said.

Ruddock said there are 25 shows planned so far. Information on the artists and performance schedules as well as tickets can be found on the cafe website
