A Nashua woman was arrested Tuesday after police accused her of trying to steal from a department store and biting the security guard who tried to stop her.

Nashua police were called to the Pheasant Lane Mall at 310 Daniel Webster Highway shortly before 5 p.m. for a report of a theft. Mall security guards said a woman who had been stopped by a Macy’s loss prevention officer had begun fighting and bit the officer, police said.

The struggle had ended by the time police arrived, and they identified the woman as Crystal Frechette, 34, of 28 Railroad Square, Nashua.

The items she is accused of taking are valued at more than $800 and were found in her purse, police said.

Frechette was charged with burglary and released on $2,500 cash or surety bail pending an arraignment at Nashua district court Aug. 19, police said.

The Class B felony charge is punishable by up to seven years in prison plus fines, police said.
