A Nashua woman was charged with drunken driving after smashing her car into a utility pole in the city early Friday morning.

Police were called to the area near 68 Canal St. shortly before 2 a.m. Friday for a car crash and found that a single vehicle had crashed into a utility pole and that the driver was trapped inside.

The driver, Melissa Saez, 25, of 160 Concord St., Apt. B1, Nashua, was extricated from the car and taken to a city hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

After a short investigation, police charged Saez with aggravated driving while intoxicated, a felony, police said.

Saez was released on bail at the hospital and will be arraigned at Nashua district court on Aug. 14, police said.
