Merrimack police were called shortly before 8:30 p.m. for a reported road rage incident on Continental Boulevard. The caller said he approached Matthew Merrill, 24, of 8 Cub Circle Amherst, after observing his vehicle nearly striking a woman crossing a parking lot, police said.

That’s when Merrill accosted the caller, who was able to flee to his car and follow Merrill’s vehicle while talking to authorities, police said.

Officers stopped Merrill on Continental Boulevard near Cambridge Drive where they arrested him and charged him with criminal threatening, police said.

Merrill was released on $500 cash and $1,500 personal recognizance bail and will be arraigned on the felony charge at Merrimack district court Aug. 7, police said.
