Stephen G. Brown was charged with reckless operation in the incident, which began around 7 a.m. when Trooper Gary Ingham observed the motorcycle, a 1989 Suzuki GSX750, traveling at a high rate of speed on Route 101 in Exeter, police said.

They said Ingham clocked the motorcycle at 125 mph. He and Trooper Jeffrey Costa were able to catch up to the motorcyclist, police said, when traffic became heavy and he was forced to slow down.

According to several motorcycle Websites, the Suzuki GSX750 has a four-cylinder, 106-horsepower engine whose top speed is 140-143 mph.

Police said Brown is scheduled to appear in Brentwood district court on Sept. 25.

They said anyone with any information about the incident can call Ingham at 223-8490.
