MERRIMACK – A Maryland man is accused of being drunk behind the wheel when his car crashed into a Merrimack home early Friday morning.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to a home at 225 Amherst Road near the intersection with Peaslee Road around 3:30 a.m. after a 1999 Lexus crashed into the porch, police said.

A preliminary investigation determined a man was driving east on Amherst Road when he drifted into the other lane, left the roadway and smashed into the porch, causing minor damage, police said.

Police said Darrell Ferguson, 22, of 9503 Concord Drive, Upper Marlboro, Md., showed signs of impairment when officers spoke with him, and he was charged with operating under the influence of liquor.

Ferguson was released on $1,000 personal recognizance bail and ordered to appear at Merrimack district court on Aug. 7.
