Police apprehended what they said was a would-be robber on Friday afternoon, roughly 50 yards away from the store that was targeted.

Officers were called around 4 p.m. to the State Liquor Store at 300 Main St. for the report of a robbery, and were advised store employees were detaining the suspect in the parking lot.

Police didn’t immediately return a call seeking more information Friday evening, and further details aren’t yet known.

Police were seen putting a man into the back seat of one of several cruisers that responded. They also spoke for a time with several civilians who may have been witnesses or may have been involved in detaining the suspect.

An AMR ambulance was standing by, but there was no indication of any injuries.
