MERRIMACK – A local man was seriously injured Saturday when his motorcycle crashed near his home on Bedford Road.

Police said 59-year-old Stephen Hill, of 105 Bedford Road, Merrimack, was flown by medical helicopter to Massachusetts General Hospital after receiving life-threatening injuries in the 4 p.m. crash.

Hill was heading west on Bedford Road when his 1981 Yamaha 650 motorcycle left the pavement and traveled across the lawn at 73 Bedford Road, according to information provided by Merrimack police.

Hill lost control of the motorcycle and was thrown onto the driveway of the residence.

Rescue crews from the Merrimack Fire Department provided advanced life support to stabilize Hill at the scene. Firefighters established a landing zone for the helicopter at Reeds Ferry School on Lyons Road.

Hill’s condition was unknown Sunday. A representative from Massachusetts General Hospital did not immediately return a call seeking comment Sunday.

Merrimack police continue to investigate the crash. Anyone with information is asked to contact the police department at 424-3774.
