HUDSON – A 43-year-old Hudson man died of severe injuries Monday afternoon after the motorcycle he was operating and a mini-van collided on Greeley Street at the intersection of Springwood Circle.

Police said Steven Fortier, 43, of Hudson, was pronounced dead in the emergency room at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center shortly after the 5 p.m. crash.

They said Fortier may have been exiting the driveway of Barlo Signs, 158 Greeley St., when his 1998 Harley Davidson motorcycle and the mini-van collided.

The driver of the mini-van, Tara Dufour, also of Hudson, was not injured, nor were three children who were in Dufour’s vehicle.

Police said it appeared Fortier’s motorcycle struck Dufour’s mini-van, which was traveling north on Greeley Street.

Police said Fortier was not wearing a helmet.

A medical helicopter was dispatched to the scene but was cancelled several minutes later.

A woman who lives at the corner of Greeley Street and Springwood Circle said she heard the impact, then the sound of the motorcycle sliding on the pavement.

“I was trying to get him to breathe,” said the woman, who was obviously shaken by the ordeal and requested anonymity. “I knew not to move him,” she added, her voice breaking.

Greeley Street was closed between Springfield Circle and Old Derry Road. The entire scene was encircled in yellow police tape.

The Hudson Police Crash Investigation and Reconstruction Team is investigating the accident. Police said a section of Greeley Street between Old Derry Road and Gabrielle Drive was closed into the night for the investigation.
