A business professor at Rivier University in Nashua was selected to receive a New Hampshire Excellence in Education Award as Business Educator of the Year.

The award will be presented to Dr. Karen Spohn by the New Hampshire Business Education Association at the state “ED”ies Awards on June 8 in Manchester.

Spohn holds a Ph.D. in economics with a concentration in finance, a master’s degree in economics and a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and economics. Her specialities include corporate governance, executive compensation, and economic and business forecasting.

She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in economics and finance at the university, and is co-chairwoman of the business division’s finance advisory board.

“I am constantly experimenting with new ways of teaching,” Spohn said. “I try to make use of the latest technology and resources that are available. In a typical course, I present the information necessary to understand the models and data needed to analyze a problem. I then give students opportunities to apply these concepts to an area of their interest.”
