If you want a companion who will bring a smile to your face daily, then come on in and meet me! I’m a gorgeous big boy who will give lots of love to my new family. I have lived with a medium-size dog and my brother cat, so I will consider homes with other cats and dogs. I haven’t been around children, but probably wouldn’t mind living with older kids who will give me time to get used to them. Don’t be alarmed if you come to visit me and see a sign saying don’t stick your fingers in my cage. I don’t like being in my cage, even though the people here gave me a special cage to reside in. I’m very friendly outside my cage, however, and just love attention and being patted! Come and meet me to see how wonderful I am!

My name is Mary, but I’m not contrary at all! I’m 8 years old, and I may be a little shy at first, but it doesn’t take me long to warm up and give you a big head butt for attention. I like to be patted and enjoy being brushed. I have beautiful long fur and want to be sure to always look my best! I have this cute little habit of talking softly to myself sometimes, so don’t be surprised if you hear a few quiet meows. I lived with other animals, but would much prefer to be your one and only and have my people all to myself! Watch my video at to see how adorable I am. Or even better, if you’re in the market for a sweet, declawed, mature gal, come meet me today!

The Humane Society for Greater Nashua is at 24 Ferry Road, Nashua. Hours are noon-5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. For more information, visit, call 889-2275 or email

A handsome, impressive, loyal, athletic, loving German shepherd/Rottweiler cross desperately seeks a forever home! Despite 2-year-old Smokey’s rough start in life, he remains upbeat and happy-go-lucky. He is high-energy, very intelligent, and loves to please and be given affection. Smokey needs a job to do, plenty of exercise, a structured environment and the compassionate guidance of an experienced “pack leader.” As a stray, Smokey learned to protect his food and resources to survive. Adult-only homes that demonstrate a commitment and ability to adhere to Smokey’s professionally managed rehabilitative training program, which is very easy to follow, will be considered. Smokey has been in the lonely shelter forever, it seems, and has watched his kennel mates go to new homes. While we realize Smokey has specific needs, his soul-searching, gentle brown eyes that still glimmer with a tiny speck of hope encourage us to keep trying to find him just the right home.

Hours are by appointment only. For more information, visit, email or call 233-4801. Meet our adoptable pets at our monthly Pet Adoption Day at the Pelham Congregational Church, 3 Main St. The next one is 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 27. To see ARNNE on “Gate City Chronicles,” visit this story at
