MERRIMACK – Dr. Mary Braun was presented with the Ira Byock and Yvonne Corbeil Award at the recent annual meeting of the New Hampshire Hospice and Palliative Care Organization.

Braun, of Exeter, is the medical director of the Community Hospice House in Merrimack and a palliative care physician with Dartmouth-Hitchcock in Manchester.

This award, presented by Janice McDermott, executive director of the palliative care organization, honors an individual, team or organization in northern New England who has demonstrated innovation and collaboration to improve quality, expand access and increase efficiency in delivering the best end-of-life care possible to New Hampshire residents.

Along with her work at the Community Hospice House, Braun worked with her medical colleagues and Home Health & Hospice Care to open an Outpatient Palliative Care Unit at the Norris Cotton Center at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester.

“We are very proud of Dr. Braun’s honor, but we are not surprised,” said Barbara La France, director of hospice for Home Health & Hospice Care and the Community Hospice House. “Her continued advocacy for palliative care across all health care settings and her high standards of care are why she continues to be recognized as a leader in her specialty.

“This comforting model of care is having meaningful impact among patients and families who would otherwise be living from crisis to crisis. Dr. Braun is clearly one of the driving forces in our state to not only champion palliative care, but to materially advance its use.”
