St. Joseph Hospital keeps infection rate down

NASHUA – St. Joseph Hospital was one of only five hospitals in New Hampshire to have lower than expected infection rates, according to the recent release of data of “Healthcare Associated Infections” by New Hampshire’s Department of Health and Human Services.

Data released was based on information gathered from Jan. 1-Dec. 31, 2010.

New Hampshire hospitals were required to report central line-associated bloodstream infections and surgical site infections following heart, colon and knee surgeries. In 2010, St. Joseph Hospital only had one reportable infection, which was lower than the 5.92 that the state expected the hospital to have based on services offered and population size.

The hospital had no reportable infections for colon and knee arthroplasty procedures.
