The new year is here – find your theme for 2018
Are you finding it hard to set your intention for the year? Here is a great way to set yourself up for success. Over the past four years I’ve switched my thinking from setting goals to setting goals AND finding my One Word. Thanks to Dan Gordon, and the authors of “One Word,” I live with much more focus throughout the 12 months.
Did you know 96 percent of those that set New Year’s Resolutions fail by the end of January?
This article will help you avoid being part of this statistic.
We all have dreams and wishes, but what makes these a reality is most important. As you take time to reflect on 2017 and plan 2018, find a word that can help you stay on track through the year. Finding a theme is one step above setting a goal. To achieve a goal you need laser focus and persistence. That is what your theme will provide you with.
Coming up with your theme should be an exciting process. As I stated above, reading “One Word” is a great place to start. However, there are many ways to find your theme. Brainstorm what it is you want or need this year. Meditate, write, or pray, do whatever helps you discover the best focus word for you. You will know when you’ve got it. It’ll come to you as clear as day – be open to it.
My word of the year is MORE. Usually, my word comes to me easily, but this year it was a struggle. I read the book, brainstormed on paper, and meditated. Finally after two weeks of searching, it came to me! I was looking for a theme that would allow me to keep my past words with me this year. I had a hard time parting with some of my favorites; GIVE, GRATITUDE, BELIEVE and HOPE. So, I began to think of a way to keep them all with me. Then, MORE was born. I truly believe in “giving to get.” I believe in the Law of Attraction, what you put out there is what you will get. So, if I give MORE, do MORE, create MORE, love MORE, help MORE then I’ll get MORE!
A resolution is exciting for a moment, but rarely does it last the entire year. As the months move on, life will change. You will encounter stress,
busyness, and at times, anxiety. Having a word that moves you can help you re-set and re-focus during these times. This is a word or theme that no matter your circumstance, you can think of and meditate on to calm yourself. It will relate to all facets of your life. It’ll become your constant.
I hope your process is as exciting as it is for me each year. I suggest that you do both, set goals and find your theme. Allow your goals to be time-bound, specific, and most important, realistic. Know that at any point, they can be reset. Don’t give up or throw in the towel simply because you didn’t hit a goal, rather, accept that change is going to happen and be ready to move on with intention!
