Suspected drunken driver strikes pedestrians in Nashua
NASHUA – Two pedestrians were seriously injured in the early hours of Tuesday morning after they were struck by a vehicle in the parking lot near the intersection of Railroad Square and Clinton Street, authorities say.
Phillip Kannaly, 26, of 63 Queensland Road, North Billerica, Mass., hit two adults in the lot near Riverwalk Cafe, said Nashua Police Lt. Craig Allard. Police did not identify the victims in a Tuesday press release but said one was transported to a local hospital and the other – who authorities say is critical condition – was sent to a Boston-area hospital.
The incident was not a hit-and-run, as some on social media claimed. Kannaly, however, was arrested and charged with aggravated driving under the influence.
The scene was blocked off with police tape well into Tuesday morning.
After further investigation, police also charged Kanally with reckless conduct, a felony punishable by up to seven years in prison.
Nashua police Sgt. Dan Mederos said that while authorities are still looking into the incident, it appears the driver’s own recklessness caused the accident.
Kanally posted $25,000 cash or surety bail and is scheduled for arraignment on Nov. 22 in a Nashua district court.
