A non-Grinchy post: Christmas lights don't use as much electricity as it seems

Even an eco-grump like me likes Christmas lights, despite their inherent wastefulness. (I left the lights on our outdoor tree all year and they lit up immediately when I plugged them in. Compare that to the indoor strings, which we carefully put away in boxes and which failed to work half the time. $#%@#!!!)
Like most people I wonder how much electricity they use, but I'm too lazy to find out. So let's link to somebody who did, and who found that particularly if you use LED lights, which are increasingly common, even the longest, most garish strings use less than 150 watts at a time. Wasteful, sure, but worth it.
