21st-century telecom and 19th-century bark-covered beams

The Telegraph has a story this morning about structural problems at the almost-200-year-old Amherst town hall.
I really like this photo by staff photographer Bob Hammerstrom, showing electrical and communication cables running along a structural beam in the basement ceiling, holding up the first floor. The beams are so old that they still have their tree bark on them!
Is that cool, or what? I love it when technologies from different eras exist cheek-by-jowl.
