Consider an announcement from the website of the National Oceanographic and Atmospherica Administration: "No evidence of aquatic humanoids has ever been found."

Mermaids aren't real; I needed to hear that on a Monday?

NOAA felt obliged to make this statement because, as Slate reports, the Discovery Channel recently had one of those idiotic shows that slaps together some vague stuff and pretends it is evidence that raises legitimate questions about a pseudoscience likely to draw an audience.
