Full moon on Friday the 13th! (for certain definitions of "full moon")

The moon was full at 4:11 a.m. universal time today, Friday the 13th. Pretty cool.

Unless you're on the west coast, in which cae the moon was full before midnight - i.e., on Thursday the 12th.

Phil "Bad Astronomy" Plait examined this whole not-very-astonishing coincidence for Slate.

The best Friday the 13th factoid comes from a 2008 Dutch study, which found that in the Netherlands, at least, there are fewer accidents, fires and other bad events on Friday the 13th than on typical Fridays.
