$200 ain't cheap, and you could make this is any half-decent home shop. But it's a nice, simple, easily assembled design.

A clever design for a flexible, not overly expensive standing desk

Standing desks are a good idea (as I've mentioned) but they're also trendy, which means there are lots of expensive variants out there.

BoingBoing pointed me to a very clever variant, made of slotted wood that lets you vary heights and layout without spending a fortune on hydraulic raisers or doodads like that. At $199, it's a lot more than the three pieces of leftover work I nailed together, but it's also much nicer and more useful - a way to try out a standing desk on your existing desk without looking like you belong in a grubby pit (i.e., a newsroom).

It's called UpStanding Desk; here's the site.

The one drawback is that you can't easily switch from standing to sitting to standing to sitting during the course of the day - which I think is at least as helpful as standing.
