MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Fans of rock and roll icon Elvis Presley are gathering at Graceland in Memphis for a memorial of his death 37 years ago.

Each year, devotees of the late singer and actor participate in a candlelight vigil on the anniversary of his death. Presley died in Memphis on Aug. 16, 1977.

Fans line up outside the gates of Graceland, Presley’s longtime Memphis home, before making a slow, nighttime walk to his gravesite located on the grounds of the home-turned-museum.

The vigil is a highlight of Elvis Week, a celebration of Presley’s career and his life that attracts fans from around the world.

This year, other Elvis Week events have included an auction of Presley memorabilia and the groundbreaking of a planned 450-room hotel at the Graceland tourist attraction.
