Fiddler on the Roof performances set for Sept. 14-17
MILFORD – This summer, the halls of the Amato Center in Milford have been echoing with the songs “Matchmaker” and “Sunrise, Sunset” as the Friends of the Amato prepare to present the classic Fiddler on the Roof.
Performances for Fiddler are 7:30p.m. Sept. 14-16 and 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 17.
With a cast comprised of adults and kids from more than 10 surrounding towns, including several families, Fiddler is a multi-generational production highlighting the life of Tevye, a poor Jewish milkman living in Anatevka, a small village in 1905 czarist Russia. As three of Tevye’s five daughters navigate courtship and marriage, all challenge his dearly held traditions, and Tevye is forced to deal with the changes a new generation brings. Full of love, loss, humor, and heartbreak, not to mention well known tunes like “If I Were a Rich Man” and “Sunrise, Sunset,” Fiddler brings these classic characters to life, and this cast does so masterfully.
“We have an incredibly dedicated group of people, both on the stage and behind the scenes, and all have worked hard this summer to make this show happen,” said one of the directors. “I’m very proud of how they have breathed life into their characters, and it’s a pleasure to watch them rehearse every night.”
The production is directed by Patrick O’Mara and Katie Hammes, choreographed by Meg King with musical direction by Kim Whitehead, lighting by Tyler Soucy and TS Event Productions, and costume design by Julia Bucklin. Production stage manager is Val Wisneski.
Upcoming productions are The Addams Family in November, and auditions for Riverbend Youth Company’s 2018 dance show are in late September, with auditions for the Tempest and the Best Christmas Pageant Ever not far behind.
The Friends of the Amato, an adult cast, is working with The Riverbend Youth Company to present Fiddler on the Roof. RYC is a program of the Boys & Girls Club of Souhegan Valley, providing hundreds of kids a year with high-quality performance and technical theater opportunities.
