Hitchiner Manufacturing poised for expansion
MILFORD – Five years ago, Hitchiner Manufacturing Co. laid off about 60 workers at its manufacturing plants in Littleton and Milford.
Last week, the future looked brighter as the company prepared for a 44,000-square-foot addition.
Fulcrum Associates Inc., of Amherst, will expand the company’s gas turbine facility, which primarily services the jet engine market.
The more than $8 million project will accommodate mixed manufacturing and office space.
“This represents a significant commitment to our future growth and to the maintenance of existing and new jobs at Hitchiner, not only at Gas Turbine, but at all of the company’s locations in the U.S. and in Mexico,” company President Mike Hanrahan wrote in a company memo.
The three-phase project might be completed in phases or together, “depending upon our performance,” he wrote.
Hitchiner produces molds, called investment castings, for automotive, aerospace and defense industries, and employees about 600 people in its Milford plant
The building project is also expected to create approximately 35 construction jobs in the Milford area.
The privately owned company, founded in 1946 in Manchester, is now headquartered in Milford and has 2,000 employees worldwide, including plants in Mexico. This year, it celebrates its 60th year in its Milford location.
