British health care unfairly maligned
Contrary to the negative letter from Diane Lothrop ("She wasn't impressed with U.K. health care," Aug. 16)
I am totally impressed by the National Health Service in the UK.
My mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer in the lung and liver, and I also rushed home from San Francisco to be with her.
The NHS was wonderful. Mum wanted to die at home, so she received a hospital-style bed, three daily visits from the nurses service, daily visits from an NHS doctor, and great, tender, loving care.
All four of my brothers and sisters receive outstanding care from the NHS.
Sure the NHS has financial problems, but they are not on the backs of poor, sick individuals.
The monthly cost to the working taxpayer is high, but all care is covered and no one in the UK goes bankrupt for health-care related bills.
Yes, definitely I would seek this for the United States.
