Davey, Prophet enjoy reunion at Conn. College
The friendship began on the soccer field when they were 7 years old, playing together in the Nashua Cobras program.
As both players progressed, they moved on to the Bedford Classics and went their separate ways, Erin Davey playing for a girls team and Trevor Prophet with the boys.
Davey, a standout in both soccer and ice hockey, went to Proctor Academy. Prophet, who plays soccer and tennis, spent his high school years at Milton Academy.
Strangely enough, the pair wrapped up their collegiate soccer careers at the same school. The duo – who both call Nashua their hometown – are seniors at Connecticut College.
“One day I bumped into him in the dining hall and I said ‘wow, what’s going on’,’’ Davey said. “I had no idea we were both at the same school.’’
Both chose the Division III school, which competes in the New England Small College Athletic Conference, for the same reason, the opportunity to continue to play two sports.
Prophet, who scored a career- and team-high eight goals this fall, was chosen first team All-Conference for the second straight year.
His biggest goal was a game-winner in overtime against Bowdoin College.
Prophet, who is slated to play No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles for the tennis team this spring, is a dean’s list student majoring in economics and international relations.
Davey, a midfielder, had two goals for the soccer team in her final season. She had a team-high 14 goals for the ice hockey team last winter. She has 26 career goals.
Davey, who interned with the Ellen DeGeneres show over the summer, hopes to go back to California after graduating and get a job in the television industry.
Prophet is looking toward Africa.
“I’m looking into a program called ‘Grassroots Soccer in Africa’,’’ Prophet said. “I’m looking into being an intern at the school, playing semi professional soccer and helping out with HIV and AIDS awareness.’’
And who knows, maybe Davey and Prophet will cross paths again.
Hilton honored
Sophomore midfielder Brad Hilton of Merrimack was named to the America East Conference All Academic Team.
Hilton, a business administration major, has a grade point average of 3.37.
He started all 17 games this fall for the men’s soccer team, finishing the season with three assists.
Prunier leads Colby
Senior Dan Prunier of Merrimack, a Bishop Guertin graduate, is leading the Colby College football team in rushing for the second straight season.
Prunier had 305 yards in eight games so far and had caught eight passes for another 70 yards. He’s among the team leaders in punt and kickoff returns.
He had one of his best games of the season Saturday, gaining 61 yards on 13 carries in a 32-27 loss at Bowdoin. He gained 75 yards on 19 carries a week earlier in a 34-31 victory over Tufts.
Clark headed to NCAAs
Junior Lyra Clark earned All-Region honors for the third straight year and led the UMass Lowell cross country team to a second place finish in the NCAA East Regionals in Boston on Nov. 7.
Clark finished seventh overall, covering the six kilometer course in 23 minutes and 15.4 seconds. The team will compete in the NCAA Championship Saturday at Southern Indiana University.
Hogan out again
Former Nashua High School North standout Kelsey Hogan, who underwent reconstructive knee surgery a year ago, has torn the ACL in her left knee a second time.
Hogan, named tri-captain of the University of New Hampshire women’s basketball team as a red-shirt freshman, will miss the entire season after missing all but three games last year.
