Hockey Wrapup

The Tates Gallery Manchester Flames Squirt AA team was in action during the Halloween weekend. The team played a Dual State League game and defeated the Acton/Boxboro Squirt 1 team by the score of 3-2.

The Flames scored two goals in the first period. Jack Compos made a pass to defensemen Zach Bayer who fired a shot from the blue line for the score. The Flames second goal came when Lucas Masciarelli and Griffin Cook set up John McNichols to put the Flames up 2-0 at the end of the first period.

The second period was a back-and-forth contest as both teams had numerous scoring opportunities. However, Acton-Boxboro was able to cut the lead to 2-1 when they scored the only goal of the second period. In the third period McNichols returned the favor when he and Cook set up Masciarelli for the third Flames goal.

Acton-Boxboro kept the pressure on and was able to cut the lead to 3-2 halfway into the third period. The Flames then rallied around their goalie, Cameron Bernard who shut the door on Acton/Boxboro by not allowing another goal. The defense of Connor Glosner, Brendan Courtney, and Nathan Duplessis stood strong in front of Bernard.

In the Flames’ second game of the weekend they fell to the Manchester Jr. Monarchs Squirt AA team 4-0 at the Manchester West Side Arena. The Monarchs took a 3-0 lead into middle of the third period. Then the Flames offense scored two goals within 20 seconds. Compos scored the first goal as Patrick Goren set him up for the assist. The Flames scored again as Sean Moore and Cook set up Masciarelli.

The game appeared to have shifted momentum as the Flames were seeking the game tying goal. The defense of Glosner, Courtney, Bayer and Ashlie Killen helped keep the game within reach.
