Writer impressed with health care in Spain
For those worried about accessibility, quality and cost of universal health care, I can share my personal experience in a country where such a health care system is already in place.
While traveling in Spain I got sick enough to need medical help, and the hotel suggested I visit the local drugstore. The pharmacist asked some questions, sold me a course of antibiotics and recommended I visit the local hospital if not better in three days.
No wait for a doctor appointment, no $100 doctor fee, no $60 prescription medicine; and I was indeed fine in a couple days. Oh, and the cost for the antibiotics: $4.
I was surprised and impressed with how much better this health care system worked for me than what I would have had to go through back home. I hope health care reform currently being developed by Congress will provide this kind of benefit.
