The Telegraph's Newspaper in Education (NIE) is a cooperative effort of The Telegraph, local business sponsors and our subscribers to enhance the educational process by bringing the newspaper into our local schools.
Research has repeatedly shown that using the newspaper, as a teaching tool in the classroom, significantly improves reading and retention skills, sharpens a student's critical thinking ability, motivates students to learn and enhances the overall learning process across all curriculum areas.
The NIE program
runs the entire school year. Teachers
can sign up to participate for the entire period or they can enroll their
class for a specific time period. There are a limited number of copies available for the school year. Enrollment requests will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
The newspapers are delivered directly to the school by 6:00 am with the teacher's name indicated on top of the bundle. Our NIE program follows the school calendar, so newspapers will not be delivered on scheduled vacation days.
THE TELEGRAPH PROMOTES STUDENT LITERACY ON A DAILY BASIS
Through in-paper features and our Newspaper in Education program, the Telegraph encourages students to read independently, with their classmates, or with their families on a daily basis.
On Thursdays, in addition to our daily sports coverage of high school sports, younger students can read about their sports accomplishments on the weekly Kid's Sports pages. Reading about themselves in the Telegraph Sports Page is a highlight for student athletes of all ages!
