Search for jail escapee turns to Conn.
CLAREMONT (AP) – A New Hampshire county sheriff’s office says an inmate who cut a hole in the ceiling of his cell and escaped was last seen in Connecticut.
The Sullivan County Sheriff’s office has notified the U.S. Marshals Service and the Connecticut State police about 45-year-old Robert Hale III, who was being held on armed robbery charges at the Sullivan County jail and was discovered missing early Thursday.
Investigators learned Thursday night Hale could possibly be in a Chevy S-10 gray pickup with New Hampshire registration 259-8874. They said he was last seen in Colchester, Conn.
Corrections officers believe Hale had been working on the hole for some time and concealed it with toothpaste.
Officials say Hale is a white male, 6 feet tall and weighs between 160 and 170 pounds.
