CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — A New Hampshire state police officials hopes that a new cold-case homicide unit will start coming results by the end of its first year.

The final step in creating the unit came this week when the Executive Council accepted nearly $700,000 in federal stimulus funds to cover two full-time troopers through June 2012. But State Police Col. Fred Booth says the public shouldn’t expect instant results given how much digging up of old information is involved. He told the New Hampshire Union Leader that he hopes to report real progress by the time an update to the Legislature is due in December 2010.

The state has more than 100 unsolved murder dating back to 1970.
