KEENE, N.H. (AP) — A man convicted of impersonating a U.S. Marshal as a way to con two New Hampshire businessmen out of more than $10,000 is going to spend six to 12 years in prison.

And 46-year-old Joseph Baldasaro of Sommerville, Mass., could still face other charges in Maine, Massachusetts and Vermont as well federal charges.

The New Hampshire Union Leader reports Baldasaro’s defense attorney says his client pleaded guilty to two charges rather than face 63 years in prison if convicted at trial of all the charges against him.

In May, Baldasaro persuaded two Chesterfield business owners to give him cash that was supposedly part of an investigation into counterfeit money.

Baldasaro was later arrested in upstate New York.
