Two hurt in crash on Route 101

Two people were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries Thursday afternoon after a 2000 Volvo and a 2006 Prius collided head-on on Route 101 in Amherst, about a half mile west of Route 122.

Amherst Police Chief Peter Lyon said a preliminary investigation shows the driver of the Volvo, Jason Ouellette, 19, of Bedford, was heading east toward Manchester shortly after 2 p.m. and tried to make a U-turn.

Ouellette and the driver of the Prius, Paul Grautski, 47, of Leominster, Mass. were both taken away by Amherst ambulances. A third person, an occupant of the Volvo, was not injured.

Amherst police and fire departments also responded to the scene.

Eastbound traffic was backed up for about a half mile.
