No. 6. Allyson Jutras, of Hudson, July: "My son Ian and I went to Alaska in July to visit with relatives and do some sightseeing. It was a gift for his high school graduation and my 50th birthday. One of our adventures was taking a helicopter ride from Girdwood up to Punch Bowl Glacier to go dog sledding with a team that has run the Iditarod. The snow is tinged with black because of the volcanic eruption earlier in the summer. The picture is from my perspective behind the team." Enlarge

No. 9. Darlene Dery, of Hollis, September: "This was taken the JFK Memorial Library, Dorchester, Mass. It's taken in the pavillion, looking up to the gigantic U.S. flag hanging in the center of the room. It was taken a few days after Ted Kennedy's memorial service that was held on site." Enlarge
No. 10. Bryan J. Higgs, of Milford, May: "My wife and I spent about 10 days on safari in Tanzania, in East Africa. It was an amazing experience! Among other locations, we visited Ngorongoro Crater, the world's largest unbroken, unsubmerged volcanic caldera - a beautiful place, teeming with wildlife. During our game drive down into the crater, we found ourselves (and our vehicle) embedded in a long line of zebras. This picture shows how close we were; the closest zebras were perhaps 10 to 15 feet away from us." Enlarge

Jim Taggart, of Chelmsford, Mass., saw Chicago with a bit different perspective while on a visit in May.
His interesting photograph of Cloud Gate, aka “The Bean,” in Millennium Park captivated the judges as he won The Telegraph’s 14th annual Picture Your Vacation contest.
Taggart will receive the first prize of a $50 restaurant gift certificate.
Runner-up John Durkin, of Bedford, and third-place finisher Chris Guild, of Merrimack, will receive $25 restaurant gift certificates.
Every photographer who placed in the top 10 will be awarded a Picture Your Vacation contest travel mug.
The panel of judges included Sandy Bucknam, Sunday/Features editor; Deb Cad, community news editor; Carolyn Dube, copy editor; Bob Hammerstrom, photographer; Karen Lovett, reporter; Kelly McGrath, reporter; Michelle Mitchell, digital media; and Dave Solomon, editor.
