After-school program seeks PlayStation entertainment

The hours between the time school’s out and the time the workday ends are a major concern for anyone responsible for the care of young children. In these times of two-income necessity, after-school programs are invaluable to provide a safe, educational, interactive social environment.

A local program turns to the Mailbag to provide additional fun!

Coming in to play

“I work at the local 21st Century After-School program at Dr. Crisp Elementary School, and I was wondering if any of your readers might have a working PlayStation 2 they might want to give us,” asks Stacey S., of Nashua (LTR 500). “Our kids love to play it, but we can’t afford to get them one. Also, if anyone might have any PS2 games (rated E) or any controllers they might want to give us, it would be greatly appreciated.

“It’s a great program, and our kids would love it! I know it’s a long shot, but it’s worth a try!”

You never know what turns up in the Mailbag – that “long shot” just might score a winning point in your direction! If you can help, call Stacey at 889-6545.

Fine dining

“We have about 10 place settings (dinner and salad plates, bowls, cups and saucers) of Lenox casual dinnerware for anyone who can use them,” writes Susan N., of Amherst (LTR 2,559). “They are ivory colored with a gray pattern around the border, and are able to be put in the microwave and oven. Although the finish on the plates is somewhat worn from use and from the dishwasher, overall, they are in great shape. We can deliver.”

Founded in 1889, Lenox is among the world’s oldest and most respected names in fine tableware, favored by presidents, displayed in museums and honored with awards. A set is available in the Mailbag thanks to Susan, who can be reached at srnykamp@ comcast.net.

Legos wanted

“My grandson is really into building with Legos,” says Sarah H., of Nashua (LTR 349). “If anyone has some that are no longer being used, he would welcome them.”

From cabins to castles, aircraft carriers, to great walls and barriers, Legos continue to provide practically endless fun! If you can help Sarah’s grandson build on his creativity, give her a call at 891-0531.

Laundry time

“I have a Maytag washing machine I would like to give away,” says Mary H., of Merrimack (LTR 2,560). “It is in excellent running condition, just needs to be picked up.”

Maytag’s reputation speaks for itself! Interested parties should speak to Mary at 424-2760.

The fine print(ers)

“I have two working printers available for pick-up,” writes Jill B., of Nashua (LTR 1,114). “One is an HP PSC 1315 all-in-one, and the other is an HP 7350 Photosmart.”

Hewlett Packard printers are recommended and respected by businesses and home users alike. To join this good company of satisfied consumers, call Jill at 888-8912.

Exercise bike

“I have a stationary exercise bicycle that is free to anyone who can use it,” writes Bob G., of Nashua (LTR 2,300). “It is a Sears product, model FXC5000. From the front of the front wheel to the back of the seat, it measures 43 inches. There are several dials.”

It’s hoped the measurements will be helpful for transport. Bob can be reached at 883-9405.

Kitchen to go

“I have kitchen appliances for free in Hudson: a white/black Hotpoint self-cleaning gas stove, a black Whirlpool dishwasher and a black GE Spacemaker microwave oven,” says Trina H., of Londonderry (LTR 2,561). “All work and look great!”

This sounds like a wonderful opportunity to set up housekeeping or update a kitchen! Trina can be reached at 886-5104.

Senior’s storage dilemma

“I am a senior citizen looking for a five- or six-drawer bureau to store the rest of my clothes, if someone has one that is not being used,” writes E.R., of Nashua (LTR 2,562). “I would be grateful for your help. Can pick up.”

Limited storage can lead to unnecessary clutter. If you can help E.R. put things in place, give him a call at 582-4444.

Blood sugar testing supplies

“I have Accu-chek Aviva test strips, Accu-chek Multiclix lancets, an Accu-chek Aviva meter and an Accu-chek Multiclix pen, blood sugar testing supplies to give away,” writes Elaine B., of Nashua (LTR 1,442). “The last time I had some supplies to give away, they were picked up by 9 a.m. I’m very happy that someone could use them. Keep up the good work!”

Anyone needing these supplies should call Elaine at 577-9840.

Snow woe

“I’m moving from a condo into a house and will be responsible for removing snow from a long driveway on a small incline,” says Nancy B., of Nashua (LTR 43). “So, if any of your readers has a small snow blower in good working condition, I can pick up. Thanks for being a huge helping hand in our community.”

Like it or not, there’s snow in our future, so it’s best to be prepared! Nancy can be reached at 345-1951.

Updates

• Erica B., formerly of Hollis and now residing in Dover (LTR 56), writes, “Please thank your kind readers for their donations of Christmas cards! We’ve gotten an overwhelming response from Mailbag readers. Phi Theta Kappa is now able to send hundreds of cards to troops here and overseas. Thanks once again for your readers’ generosity!”

• Norma L., of Nashua (LTR 2,555), writes, “I thought I was requesting an item that would not be found, but at 9 a.m. that same Sunday, I received a call from a very nice gentleman in Hudson and lo and behold, he had curtain stretchers.”

Don’t you just love it?!
