Merrimack hiker rescued from Mt. Cube summit

ORFORD – Heather Roberts, 56, of Merrimack, was rescued from the summit of Mt. Cube on the afternoon of April 11 after she slipped and fell on a wet rock injuring her upper leg and making it impossible to get down. Conservation officers received a 911 call at 3 p.m. notifying them of the incident. Conservation officers as well as personnel from the Upper Valley Wilderness Response Team and six fire departments all raced to the mountain. According to New Hampshire Fish and Game, Roberts was found about two miles from the head of the Cross Rivendell Trail. Trudging through snow and ice, it took first responders two hours to reach Roberts. Due to the nature of her injury, Roberts was secured in a rescue litter and rescuers began bringing her down at 6 p.m. At 7:45 p.m., the rescue team arrived back at the base Mt. Cube.
